10 Reasons to Honeymoon in Sayulita
Sayulita Mexico and Bend Oregon are like unofficial sister cities. So many people I know in Central Oregon love to vacation in Sayulita! My theory… We like the beach town vibes, great food, friendly people, surfing, and active lifestyle culture. If you’re planning your honeymoon to Mexico, no matter where you live, look no further than Sayulita.
Sayulita Nayarit Mexico is a not-so-hidden gem of a coastal town, about 1 hour from Puerto Vallarta. I went to Sayulita for a bachelor and bachelorette party and we had a blast. While we were there, we noticed so many couples on their honeymoon and weddings taking place! Maybe it should be called Mexico’s City of Love?
Planning your honeymoon is such a fun part of the wedding planning process. Here are my top 10 reasons to honeymoon in Sayulita:
Sayulita is so photogenic
With abundant flowering trees, gorgeous colorful flags lining the streets, beautiful architecture, and artistic details— there are opportunities to take photos everywhere you go. On your honeymoon, it’s the perfect place to snap happy photos as newlyweds and show off that bling.
2. sayulita’s stellar food scene
Need I say more? My travel plans are always centered around the food scene. Sayulita’s restaurants and cafes focus on healthy, fresh, local options to cater to the healthy lifestyle scene. Some of our favorites included:
Mary’s (traditional Mexican cuisine, casual atmosphere)
Miscelanea (brunch)
El Itacate (amazing tacos, get there before they sell out)
Atico (best bar)
Organi-K (smoothies, bowls, coffee)
La Rustica (pizza, great cocktails, good for groups)
3. Sayulita’s weather is perfect for your honeymoon
Pick the right season and you will enjoy nothing but sunshine, warm temps, and that cool ocean breeze. The rainy season is typically June through October. We went in April and experienced nothing but perfect weather.
4. Sayulita has surfing and fun adventures
Whether it’s surfing, snorkeling, jet skiing, fishing, hiking, or another fun adventure, Sayulita offers so many activities to try on your honeymoon. The town has surf shops to rent boards or take a lesson right on the main beach. It’s definitely a beginner friendly surf!
5. TREAT YOURSELF WITH SAYULITA COCKTAILS
As with most destination beach vacations, there are tropical cocktails galore. Treat yourself on your honeymoon with lots of fun cocktail options, but use your best judgement when choosing to consume ice. Typically restaurants will have clean ice brought in, but be aware that this is one of the ways to accidentally get traveler’s illness. We enjoyed cocktails throughout the trip because we were aware of where the ice was coming from. If you prefer to skip ice altogether, you can enjoy a cold beer or Topo Chico sparkling water!
6. SAYULITA’S BEACHES are the best in the region
With comfortable temps, gentle waves, and relatively clean water, these Mexican beaches are ideal for splashing around and cooling off after a day in the sun. Some of our favorite beaches were:
Playa Las Cuevas
Playa Carricitos
Playa de los Muertos
The main Sayulita beachfront: Playa Sayulita
7. Sayulita’s hotels are gorgeous
Like straight out of a magazine, Sayulita has so many hotel and rental options that are jaw dropping with private pools, landscaping, and comfortable beds. We loved this hotel called Don Bonito Hotel which offers yoga, coffee, and breakfast on site. Another great place to find rental houses and vacation rentals is SayulitaLife.com
8. SAYULITA HAS GREAT SHOPPING
If you want to shop on your honeymoon, Sayulita has lots of cute boutiques with clothing, jewelry, souvenirs, hats, and more!
9. Sayulita is very walkable
You can easily walk all over town, including multiple beaches, so it’s not necessary to have a rental car. A lot of hotels and AirBnB’s include the option of renting a golf cart which I recommend to help save your ankles on the cobblestone streets if you’re walking to and from your lodging!
10. The sunsets in sayulita are magical
Facing west to the Pacific Ocean, you can watch the sunset from anywhere in Sayulita. Pausing after a fun day in paradise, watching the sun drop down over the water, with a drink in hand and your new husband or wife by your side… There is nothing better.
