Why Yellow is the Latest Wedding Color Trend
If you’re looking for a bold accent to include in your wedding color scheme, look no further than yellow! Yellow tones are the heart and soul of a party. They’re bright and energizing, cheerful and friendly—precisely in tune with the start of a marriage! Plus, yellow represents flexibility in the face of change, an essential for a successful wedding planning journey and marriage.
Candice and Brian’s wedding at Loloma Lodge exuded all of these traits! The design inspo for their day was the artwork of the 60s and 70s: funky, warm, and eclectic. Then, it was all wrapped up in sunny shades that embodied the joy of the occasion! The images Kendall Rock captured are some of our favorites from the last year of weddings. We’re honored that this couple trusted us with bringing their vision to life!
Retro-Inspired Wedding with Yellow Details
Candice and Brian planned most of their wedding with us remotely from their previous home on the East Coast. Then, they moved cross-country to Portland the spring before their July wedding. It was only fitting that they chose yellow as the primary shade in their wedding color scheme since they exude sunny, lighthearted energy! In fact, when asked what he pictured when he envisioned his bride-to-be, Brian answered, “the color yellow.”
There are so many fun ways to incorporate yellow accents into your wedding day! For example, the tablescapes at Candice and Brian’s reception featured vintage glassware in shades of honey and amber alongside bud vases filled with whimsical florets of zinnia and craspedia. Meanwhile, on each guest’s plate, a dried orange slice labeled with their name marked their place at the table.
However, our favorite yellow detail from the day had to be Candice’s custom-designed ceremony dress from Portland-based textile artist Jessie Von Curry and illustrator Maren Inga. Silky Swiss dot fabric formed the loose, flowing sleeves and body, while a rounded collar at the neck featured delicate floral embroidery. With openings at the sides, it was the perfect accent piece to wear over her classic white wedding dress! A Frida Kahlo-inspired floral crown with large yellow blossoms topped off the free-spirited look. Even the couple’s “flower dog,” their beloved pup Pizza, got in the fun with a yellow bandana!
We hope more couples consider incorporating yellow into their wedding color scheme in the coming year. You can’t go wrong by adding a dose of sunshine to the details of your day! Ready to start planning?
Kind Words From the Couple
My husband and I have so much gratitude and respect for Emily and her work. Every step of the way, she advocated for making our weekend into something meaningful and true to us. She was incredibly thoughtful and organized throughout the planning process. She's kind, compassionate, calm, and an excellent problem solver. Her planning skills and calm demeanor were incredibly helpful through all the twists and turns of planning a big event (especially as we were navigating a cross-country move and planning a wedding miles away). We really cannot recommend Ponderosa Planning/Emily enough! Cheers to woman-owned businesses that set the bar HIGH for their industry. Emily, we so appreciate all you do and how you do it.
