When you don’t let obstacles including a global pandemic and even Mother Nature get in your way to marry your soulmate, you know you are destined for a life full of passion and happiness.
Despite everything thrown their way, Katie + Joseph learned to cope and pivot when it came to planning their June Portland wedding.
We were introduced to Katie and Joseph through Curated Mess Co. The couple had already been planning their wedding for over a year, but they were faced with a daunting amount of planning left to do and only had four months to get it all accomplished. Enter, our team!
What we loved most about working with this couple was that they had a clear vision for their wedding. Katie and Joseph wanted their day to be a true representation of who they are, both as individuals and as a couple from the Pacific Northwest. So that combined with a little boho and eclectic inspiration, their wedding was everything they had planned and dreamt about. We love that our couple both wore Doc Martens and did things a little traditional and a little offbeat. Katie’s choice of footwear went beautifully with her luxurious Martina Liana dress.
Katie and Joseph were high school sweethearts and went on to graduate from the same college. The best way to describe them is that Katie is sweet and Joseph is the savory, making them the perfect yin and yang.
Zach Michaud from Old Ways Ceremonies nailed their relationship perfectly as the celebrant for their intimate ceremony. Here is an excerpt from their ceremony:
Joseph and Katie met during their freshman year at a high school that was “small enough that everyone kinda knows everyone else’s business.” Katie first knew Joseph only by his reputation for being extremely smart and having a dry sense of humor. When she met him face to face in biology class, she thought he was interesting and a little obnoxious. Joseph’s first impressions of Katie were of her being brilliant, pretty, and way out of his league. They come from different ideological backgrounds. The pair both acknowledge that at the young ages of 15 and 16, they both thought they were right about everything. Katie and Joseph became known for trying to outsmart the other, often drawing a crowd of fascinated onlookers during their famous debates in class. Katie’s mother affectionately called the two of them James Carville and Mary Matlin, after the famous bipartisan couple who were strategists for Presidents Clinton and Bush Senior.
Originally, the two planned on saying I Do at a local catholic church, but as the planning went along it evolved to a Montana elopement to a sunrise ceremony on Mt. Hood to finally settling on having their nuptials at Mt. Tabor Park in Portland, Oregon.
With less than a week until their wedding day, Portland was entering a very rare heatwave and the forecast called for 105 degrees on their late June wedding day.
As lifelong Portlanders, they expected the possibility of rain, but never dangerous heat! Katie + Joseph made the tough decision to move their ceremony indoors to Coopers Hall to seek some refuge and their day ended up being record breaking temps around 110. A perfect day to have ice cream as your wedding dessert!
A very rainy day in May made for the sweetest, coziest wedding for our couple Sam and Garrett. Vibrant spring color shined against the moody backdrop of the Central Oregon high desert at Brasada Ranch.
